Database access error

Hello Mr. Khor, We would really like to have our wiki back. Here's what it says on the main page: Database error From Dropframe A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software. The last attempted database query was: (SQL query hidden) from within function "LinkCache::addLinkObj". MySQL returned error "145: Table './editthis_extra/dropframe_page' is marked as crashed and should be repaired (localhost)". Retrieved from "http://www.edithis.info/dropframe/Main_Page" Please help us, -- Dropframe's admin http://editthis.info/dropframe/Main_Page

Hi Mr. Khor,

It seems that my wiki has a problem of request to the database: http://editthis.info/dropframe/ http://editthis.info/dropframe/Main_Page

I cannot access it anymore.

Can we do something ?

With Best Wishes, -- DropFrame's admin.

I can vouch for this; definitely broken. --75.73.32.24 00:44, 4 December 2006 (EST)
When was the last time you accessed this wiki? -Thanks, Rob

Layout problem with IE in all wikis with standard css - login about impossible

Looks nice in Firefox
Terrible in IE6

EJVargas 20:20, 26 September 2006 (EDT)

Currently looking into the problem, but unsure why it is happening (nothing about the style sheet has been touched). If anyone has a clue let me know. - sysadmin
Well, to me it seems to be the wide google ad at the bottom of the page that causes it. At least when I compare my Firefox and my Internet Explorer 5.5. -- David Göthberg 20:57, 10 October 2006 (EDT)
Hi Dave, thanks for the suggestion. Removed the ad from the page and looked at in in IE and the problem still occurred. - Rob
I think I got something! Add the following at the botton of the css that are fixes for Internet Explorer:
/* scale back up to a sane default */
#globalWrapper {
    font-size:100%;
    width: 100%;
    margin: 0;
    padding: 0;
}
.visualClear { clear: both; }
At least it worked on a test I did. It seems that what happens is that in main.css the font-size is set to 127%, fix that doesn't seems to work with IE.EJVargas 11:32, 12 October 2006 (EDT)
I added it to all of the IE css files, but doesn't seem to change anything. -Rob
I just checked and it did fixed the font-size problem in my IE. Did you forced the reload? Let see if somebody else notice the change. The login link problem is still there, though. -EJVargas
Looking at it more closely, it doesn't fix everything - just the font-size in the article area. The font-size at the navigation column and at the tabs are still bigger than normal. But in general it looks nicer. -EJVargas
Looking even more closely, even Wikipedia's navigation and tabs doesn't show with the right size. So I believe the font-size problem is fixed (unless I am the only one seeing the difference in my browser.) Now need to solve the login at the far right... -EJVargas

Yay! Thank you, Mr. Kohr! I just noticed it today! Now I can go and work with my Wiki again...! --80.222.235.100 09:11, 13 October 2006 (EDT)

Problems with Control Panel

On my wiki, [1] the Control Panel isn't working any more. I've created one "normal" account (for me) and now my Control Panel [2] is empty. Before that, I've configured that anonymous user aren't able to do anything. Is that a known issue? Thanks, --217.245.251.32 10:41, 8 October 2006 (EDT)

Sorry, I can't seem to duplicate your problem. -- RobKohr
I see, if I don't login, there is everything ok. But when I login as admin, there is "No text here".--141.35.1.57 03:17, 10 October 2006 (EDT)
I created a wiki to test this - http://editthis.info/asdferw/Control_Panel - Log in as admin, admin. I still see the controls, but let me know if you do not, and if you don't what browser you are running. - Thanks, Rob.
I see the controls, too. It's very strange. But please have a look at the screenshot: [3].

Graphviz Extension

There's an amazing extension for mediawiki which brings a lot of added value. It's Graphviz and it allows to specify a graph-definition which mediawiki extends to a image on runtime. It's very easy to install. Would you do that?

<graphviz>
digraph G {
size ="4,4";
main [shape=box]; /* this is a comment */
main -> parse [weight=8];
parse -> execute;
main -> init [style=dotted];
main -> cleanup;
execute -> { make_string; printf}
init -> make_string;
edge [color=red]; // so is this
main -> printf [style=bold,label="100 times"];
make_string [label="make a\
string"];
node [shape=box,style=filled,color=".7 .3 1.0"];
execute -> compare;
}
</graphviz>

MediaWiki update

Thanks for solving the upload problem, Mr. Kohr! But, when are we going to see the new MediaWiki, which allows a lot more complicated templates? By Christmas or even sooner? :D --80.222.235.100 18:43, 30 September 2006 (EDT)

Uploading problem again

Looks like the ability to upload files is gone again (I'm getting the message that the upload server is not writeable). Also, images on all pages of my wiki (excepting image_logo_url) are not working; I imagine this is a related issue. -- Amber 13:48, 27 September 2006 (EDT)

Never mind; this appears to be fixed now! -- Amber 13:53, 27 September 2006 (EDT)

Hot problems that need desperate fixing

  • IE Layout bug
  • user management (reseting forgotten passwords)
  • maybe updates for mediawiki or including graphviz or if-clauses in templates

Webserver can't upload files

  • Fixed -sysadmin

Another problem re Uploading files

I'm trying to replace an existing (1.8Mbyte) file by a new (2.1Mbyte) version, and am getting the error message:

Upload error

  1. The file you uploaded seems to be empty. This might be due to a typo in the file name. Please check whether you really want to upload this file.

I've also tried renaming the new file, so that the old one would be left in place, but this makes no diference.

Is there a problem with files of over 2Mbytes?

Database errors

For about 24 hours now, attempting to edit this wiki has resulted in errors such as "MySQL returned error "1062: Duplicate entry '3375' for key 1 (localhost)"." for me and the other users of the wiki.

It seems pages can still "sort-of" be created; the text of the page will be an error message, but it can still be moved/protected/deleted. However, none of these actions show up in Special:Recentchanges.

For reference, this was shortly after I performed some actions (move/remove, delete/undelete) on a certain page, trying to figure out what was triggering the "link spammer" message (without reading anything here, of course; oops?)

Advertisements

About the advertisements that show up at the bottom of the page... could you insert a couple of line-breaks, or a paragraph break before the advertisement? Otherwise it sticks to the last line of the content. Thanks. 70.113.115.138 05:09, 1 January 2007 (EST)

Hello Link Spammer message

How can I add a parser extension ?

Hi all,

I wrote a parser extension that enables 3D content in MediaWiki. I have it installed at home, but can I add it to my wiki on this site ?

Login/Signup Page

I don't like the login or create an account page

  1. You need to fill out the login forms to sign up.
  2. The "*" next to "real name" is misleading, because that usually means it is required, not optional

This is what I think the login page should look like:

Log in:

             ______________
  Username: |______________|
             ______________
  Password: |______________|

Sign up:

             ______________
  Username: |______________|
             ______________
  Password: |______________|
                   ______________
  Retype password:|______________|
                        ______________
  Real name (optional):|______________|

81.173.249.126 12:40, 14 September 2006 (EDT)

Maybe he'll change the "*" thing. The "sign-up, log-in"-thing is changed with the next mediawiki version, so you'll probably have to wait for that update User:Jan81.173.249.126 08:40, 14 September 2006 (EDT)

Some Questions

I just created a wiki and I have some questions.

  • In my userlist it lists a user called: RobKohr (Bureaucrat, sysop). Who is this? I didn't give him that rank.
  • How can I create new ranks?
  • How can I create new categories?
  • I noticed there is a "bot" group. Are there any bots I can get from the official editthis.info website, and what do they do?
  • Is it possible to change the favicon?
  • What does the "Special:CheckUser" page do?

Thanks, --BraveryOnions 16:06, 13 September 2006 (EDT)

Some answers I know:
  • Rob Kohr is the owner of ediththis.info. I guess he just assign himself as the admin of every new wiki to keep it clean just in case. So far I had no problems. Actually, I appreciate that, but maybe that's just me.
  • About categories: Just add a category to your page, like [[Category:Some category name]]. The category will show up at the bottom of the page and, if it is new, it will be a red link. (If by category you mean namespace, then I don't know.)
EJVargas 16:24, 14 September 2006 (EDT)
Some more answers:
  • For information on bots, look here. They're basically Python-run scripts that you can either download or write yourself.
  • For your favicon: I haven't tested it yet, but try checking out the page "Header". You should be able to add some HTML for a favicon there.
  • CheckUser is used to see if one person has more than one account. It's used as a defense against vandalism and false (sockpuppet) accounts.
  • I don't know if you can make new ranks. That's defined in special files.
Hope this helps --Kiki 22:05, 8 October 2006 (EDT)
My belief is that no-one has yet successfully changed the favicon.ico used in editthis.info. I have tried meddling with the Header page as you suggest, with no success. 81.146.16.84 05:42, 7 September 2008 (PDT)

Additional link types

Can we get "aim" and "ut2004" added to the recognized links list? i.e. [aim:goim?screenname=screennamehere] Or some way to manually add <a> tags?

Template inside template issue

Putting a template as a parameter for another template screw the whole template up by interpreting the closing brackets of the template-parameter (}}) as the closing brackets of the main-template.

Just Levenbreech Vor complaining about html in wikis again

Hey rob,

Well you all probably thought you saw the last of me and Blank Club Encyclopedia. No work done since beginning of summer and still we are vying for 7th and 8th place on most active...wow... (Glad to see that finally extended group has been toppled) But I didn't come back to brag but instead to complain :(

Before I start kvetching just want to congratulate you rob on a bunch of thing:

  1. You got married, congrats
  2. The new servers up wonderfully, congrats
  3. You're service is incredible and is growing rapidly. I remember back in the day when my wiki was created just before the 500 mark, how many do you have now? 2-3000? Thanks for the amazing site, blank club encyclopedia tried to be created first in flash then in pbwiki but the editthis.info version is the only one that has lasted.

Now my suggestion:

  • I think I've said this before but I'd like a <plain_html> setting in the control panel. There are security issues but I want the bce users to be able to edit pages with html content. Currently I'd either have to make them admins (I don't want to lose any of my power as sole admin) or have them edit the talk page and have me go into the actual page and edit it (thats kinda a bad description). I'm not sure if the ideas I have are possible but here they are:
    • Intermediate admin privileges (a.k.a. the ability to edit protected pages but nothing more)
    • A setting in the control panel that allows wikis to decide for themselves whether or not pages need to be protected in order to have html. In order to maintain security on these wikis the html privilege could only be available to users.

Please let me know if you think of another idea, choose one of these, or completely ignore me. Also anybody else on editthis.info please let me know if you feel the same way because rob shouldn't have to do a bunch of work creating some system for one wiki.

Thanks, Levenbreech Vor Admin at Blank Club Encyclopedia

Memory

When I delete an image from my wiki, is the memory regained? or do the wiki still keep it and therefore I loose that memory too? EJVargas 14:27, 12 July 2006 (EDT)

Control Panel

When I try to change the options so that people have to create an account and log in before they can edit articles, (setting the options to false,) when the page refreshes the options have been reset to true instead. Is there any way to fix this?

I see the same problem. Bear 18:38, 16 July 2006 (EDT)
Where is this option? I seem to have overlooked it. Can set such an option for a subdirectory? Like in allpages of the type editthis.info/wikiname/interal/Page1, editthis.info/wikiname/interal/Page2, editthis.info/wikiname/interal/site1, editthis.info/wikiname/interal/anothersite, etc.? Would you mind adding, what ever you know to How to administrate your wiki. Thanks Jan 08:14, 8 August 2006 (EDT)
I'm having the same problem today. I try to change settings for anonymous users to "no" and save them, but they keep changing back to yes. This is a big security issue. Cgobin6 11:45, 9 October 2006 (EDT)

Interwiki links

I'm not sure what the process is for creating them, but on almost every other Mediawiki-based wiki I've been able to use [WikiPedia:page name] to create a link to an English-langage Wikipedia page, and there are, at least on the Wikipedia, at least one hundred other wikis that there are similar links that can be used (such as for the Uncyclopedia). How can the interwiki links be added to the main editthis wiki, and also to my own wiki? For example, here is the main wikimedia interwiki map [4]. BlankVerse 14:12, 16 July 2006 (EDT)

I also appreciate interwiki linking. However, the easy workaround is to use external link markup. Bear 18:38, 16 July 2006 (EDT)
--Patrick 05:53, 25 July 2006 (EDT)

Sitename

A small issue and I wouldn't want to take time away from more important issues but I see that the magic variable {{{SITENAME}}} renders as the name of "my" wiki in all lower case, not first letter capitalized. I haven't found a way to fix this directly by editing MediaWiki namespace pages.

For the time being, I've been working around this by editing each individual occurance of the variable with the wiki name itself in straight text. But I don't think I'll be able to fix the "Project" namespace this way, which also comes up lowercase.

I'm pretty sure I capitalized the wiki name at birth.

Again, a minor issue. I'd much rather see the image issue taken care of than this but if you think it's a quick fix, great.

Can not login

  1. History
    1. created baltenwiki before the move to this new server.
    2. created a couple of users
    3. deleted the user RobKohr from baltenwiki
    4. restricted read to registred users only
  2. Behavior ever since the move to a new server
    1. Users still seem to exist
    2. Passwords do not work
    3. "Mail me password Button" does not appear
  3. Question
    1. How can I gain access to baltenwiki again?
    2. Or at least delete it and set up a new one...?

Thanx: --Baltenwiki-admin 08:28, 18 July 2006 (EDT)

I think there is no mail me my password-Button. I didn't even leave my password. But you are right. The possibility to retrieve passwords would be great. As good as that (for me) would be a chance for the admin to reset passwords or move users. Jan 81.173.255.41 06:52, 18 October 2006 (EDT)

Link to Wikipedia page

MattisManzel 04:42, 19 July 2006 (EDT): tools, Wikipedia-page - on the main-page it links to the edit-mode of this page. I guess the intention is to make people edit it but mmost will actually want to read it first. The link to the edit mode seems confusing and a bit "impolite" to me. Just my 2 ct. Not important.

Javascript activation during Wiki-creation

MattisManzel 04:42, 19 July 2006 (EDT): Having javascript deactivated and usualy forgetting about this I was stuck creating a wiki on editthis thinking "Great but it doesn't work!", A little reminder that javascript needs to be activated during creation (but not later when using the wiki) would make sense, I think.

Permanent language settings

Admin functions

How do I ban Usernames and IP Adresses?--71.107.79.186 16:12, 21 July 2006 (EDT)

Also I need to know how to give Admin status to users and how to protect pages.--71.107.79.186 16:17, 21 July 2006 (EDT)

That's three completely different functions:
  • To block a user, whether by name or by number, go to (on your wiki) Special:Blockip. Copy that link to your own home page on your own wiki; don't click it here. Despite the name of the page you can block either way.
  • To make a user a sysop (admin), go to Special:Userrights. Same drill. CAUTION: It is possible to give another user enough access for him/her to block you.
  • To protect a page, just click the appropriate link. If your skin is Monobook (default), it's a tab near the very top of the page. If your skin is Cologne Blue (my choice), it's a link near the bottom.
Bear 13:40, 23 July 2006 (EDT)
I'd like to know how to protect all pages. I'd like to know how to blockpages for non-signed-in-users as done here: http://www.editthis.info/ars_magica/Main_Page . Is there a way to block whole parts of the wiki for group-internal discussions?
Can I restrict editing and watching to usergroups, which I create. Maybe having this restrictions apply for allpages in editthis.info/wikiname/interal/Page1, editthis.info/wikiname/interal/Page2, editthis.info/wikiname/interal/site1, editthis.info/wikiname/interal/anothersite, etc. As I think this might be interesting for more people, who just know how to edit a wiki but who not know how to administer a wiki, I created a site, to collect the answer. This is the site: How to administrate your wiki. Jan 08:01, 8 August 2006 (EDT)
I don't know about about blocking off particular sections of a wiki, but you can manage what rights anons have. Just go to the page "Control Panel" in your wiki, that gives you some options. --Kiki 21:40, 8 October 2006 (EDT)

Plain Linking and Formatting

Would it be possible to change the LinkSyntax and MarkupFormat (or whatever these things are called) for individual wikis?

If so, could one of those syntax/formats do the following:

  • Preserve *all* whitespace (Carriage Returns, SPACEs, TABs).

Page Move Bug

I'm in charge of the scouting wiki and often (especially when completing a "move" action) the "scouting" section in the url will be removed and i will get this as an error:

"There is no wiki by the name of ?title=special:movepage&action=success&oldtitle=pie&newtitle=pie2&talkmoved=badarticleerror.

Would you like to Create a wiki?"

the action completes, but it's a nuesunce to have to go over and fix it every single time.

Thanks --Bud0011 22:54, 10 August 2006 (EDT)

I have possibly reproduced the page move bug. The action does complete properly in all respects -- the page is moved to the new name, the old name is replaced by a redirect to the new, and all the history entries and edit summaries are correct. The only problem is that instead of a "success" page, I get the error page.
The fastest way to get "back into" your wiki is just to hit your browser's Back button. You'll be on the page move page again and you don't want to do that twice; but you can click out to your Main Page or your contribs -- any sidebar link. Bear 21:05, 11 August 2006 (EDT)

Redirects

When I make a redirect and save it, I get an error saying that there is no such wiki. The funny thing is that the redirect actually gets saved and works. This is an annoyance, but not critical obviously. –Rodney 11:16, 19 October 2006 (EDT)

See above section. This isn't restricted to redirect creation. So far, I've heard of this issue with page moves, block/unblock user/IP, and now redirect creation. --75.73.32.24 19:54, 26 November 2006 (EST)

Images

When I create an image link and then use that link to upload the image, the URL generated is wrong and I have to recraft it by hand to get to the right page to upload the image. The error is...

There is no wiki by the name of ?title=special:upload&wpdestfile=testing.jpg.

After I correct the URL in the browser and upload the image, the original image link works fine. So, I have a workaround, but this shouldn't be happening. –Rodney 11:16, 19 October 2006 (EDT)

Templates don't support default values on parameters

I got asked on my Userpage on my wiki why some templates won't work on editthis.info though they work on wikia. I copied the two templates the guy mentioned on my wiki and tried to use them. It didn't work. Playing around the default values seemed to be the problem, so I created two templates on this wiki and a page using them. You can find the page here TemplateTestpage. As you see there, 1. to 3. work as planed (Template without default values), but 4. to 6. don't work(Template with default values). It seems that {{{1|defaultValue}}} is not supported by this wikiengine. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Template_namespace says that this command used in a template should either return the first parameter or the text defaultValue. Anyone having a comment, on whether I've overlooked something? 81.173.233.141 22:32, 26 August 2006 (EDT) Jan Jan

According to special:version, editthis is on MediaWiki V1.5.5, whereas, according to [6], V1.6 is required for parameter defaults. -- Peter 01:25, 27 August 2006 (EDT)

Questions and thank yous

First of all, I want to thank the staff of EditThis.Info wor a great site! Keep it up, guys! :)

Secondly, I'm using Microsoft Windows XP Home Version and several days (maybe one week? Dunno) ago the text on EditThis.Info's main page, my own Wiki, etc. turned a bit _too_ big, since it was supposed to be like this. Is this some problem in your computers or is it just in mine? I don't really like to change text size always from Show => Text size to small, since that makes some pages hardly view-able.

Whenever I'm logged in, I only see "references my watchlist my contributions log out". The username (Admin) and own talk page titles are somehow covered by the logo? Has this got anything doing with those ads?

And thirdly, how's the MediaWiki update going? Good? Bad? Something?

Yours truly, the random idiot without an account of his own

(ad 2): You'll see an discussion, on where the problem with css might be on this page. It's unclear till now, so you might contribute. I think this is an IE only problem. Jan 81.173.255.41 06:33, 18 October 2006 (EDT)

Another Thank You!

Guys, just another note thanking you for maintaining this fantastic site. http://editthis.info/nfl_pool__2006/Main_Page is up and in full swing and all the users--from highly technical to AOL subscribers--are thrilled with it and are suddenly your greatest fans. Many didn't realize that Wiki meant something beyond Wikipedia and several are now planning on creating their own pages. Thanks again, great stuff!

Text ads

Well, can you make a wiki on this farm without text ads?

Image Names

I accidentally uploaded an image and used an ampersand in the title. Unfortunately this does mean I can't get onto the picture's page, because it doesn't interpret everything after and including the ampersand as the title. Is there anyway to edit, rename or delete this file? --86.20.219.123 10:25, 30 September 2006 (EDT)

Have you tried using %26 instead of an ampersand to access the file? For example, you wouldn't type in abc&xyz, but abc%26xyz. --Kiki 21:34, 8 October 2006 (EDT)

Hello spammer message

I created a new limited access wiki and am having trouble editing one of the pages.[7] I am frequently getting the "Hello link spammer" message when I edit it. Any ideas on how I can fix that? Thanks. —Rodney 21:07, 11 October 2006 (EDT)

I appear to have resolved it by removing the string "http://" from some text (describing that it wasn't needed). —Rodney 21:38, 11 October 2006 (EDT)

Removing a Wiki

http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Setting_user_rights_in_MediaWiki sound like you can make them sysop without any fears, as Bureaucrat seems a higher rank. Jan 213.196.229.18 20:09, 21 October 2006 (EDT)

Logo Problem

What's wrong with this logo image?--Wikitainment guy 23:33, 20 October 2006 (EDT)

You have to put an link to an image in there, not a link to a html-page with several images. Moreover, that a size contraints as you see now that picture is shown only half way. If you can layout your wiki so this image fits. Please tell me how you did it. You might have a look at :

Table Problem

This is supposed to be a table:http://editthis.info/wikitainment/Justice_League_Unlimited/Episodes , but it isnt working.--Wikitainment guy 05:10, 21 October 2006 (EDT)

What's the problem? There is a table. (I guess #if isn't working on this wiki, as the extension used on wikipedia seems to work from 1.6 onwards) Jan 213.196.229.18 19:48, 21 October 2006 (EDT)

Sidebars

Wikis like this one from sites this editthis.info, always use a sidebar navigation box:

<--------------------Like this, above tge search bar.

It's structure is the following:

* navigation
** mainpage|mainpage
** portal-url|portal
** currentevents-url|currentevents
** recentchanges-url|recentchanges
** randompage-url|randompage
** helppage|help
**http://www.dreamhost.com/donate.cgi?id=3765|sitesupport

Now, above that I want to create a "local navigation" sidebar for my wiki, following this structure:

* local navigation
** mainarticle|'''{{mainarticle}}'''
*** subsidiary01
*** subsidiary02
*** subsidiary03

My Wiki will be all about entertainment, so let's say, for instance, we're exploring an article related to Seinfeld. The main articlewould be Seinfeld, there instead of creating articles like List of Seinfeld Episodes or List of Seinfeld Characters going Wikipedia style, we'll create subsidiary articles named /Episodes or /Characters. Therefore, we would be seing the local navigation bar like this:

So, the local navigation sidebar would be case-sensitive...

How the hell can I do that? --Wikitainment guy 01:26, 21 October 2006 (EDT)

What happens if you add a template into the sidebar? Then you could parse the sidename and create a sidebar from this. But I'm not sure whether the sidebar allows templates and what parameters like PAGENAME there are. (And I don't want to play around with my own sidebar and don't want to create a new wiki just for this. But you can start by telling us, whether one can use templates in the sidebar parsing PAGENAME. From there you can search for another variable like PAGENAME. Jan 213.196.229.18 18:13, 21 October 2006 (EDT)

You're welcomed to play around with my page if you want to help me figure that out. I could make you an admin, it is in a very embrionic state, so it really doesn't matter if you end up messing it.--189.151.11.4 00:02, 29 October 2006 (EDT)

Classification

Another special feature I'd like Wikitainment Guides to have is to change the color of the background and the header according to the classification of the page: Comics, Television, Radio, Music, Movies, Video Games or Toys. --Wikitainment guy 04:16, 21 October 2006 (EDT)

I played around on your wiki. I don't know how to figure whether an article belongs to a specific category, but that adds just one more parameter to the page. Mediawiki 1.7 supports Feedback Archives December 2006. You could wait for that, or add a this one category name parameter to the template call. Jan 213.196.229.18 19:53, 21 October 2006 (EDT)

Redirects

I'm having troubles with the redirects, I can't create any. Does anybody knows what's going on?

I'd also like to have special characters helpers below the edit text windows like Wikipedia has.

Wikipedia also added more buttons above the edit text window... how can I add them to Wikitainmet?--Wikitainment guy 01:47, 21 October 2006 (EDT)

The same thing happens when I move a page: It takes me to a page to create a Wiki.--Wikitainment guy 05:05, 21 October 2006 (EDT)

I may be seeing the same error. In my case, I have noticed that my redirect still gets created properly, despite the error message. It's annoying, but it still works. –Rodney 23:25, 4 November 2006 (EST)

Creating Articles

Hi! more help needed, hehe: When I search an obviously inexistant article in Wikitainment Guides, the search results show me no option to create the article. Since there almost no article yet in this wiki, using the search bar is the most comfortable way to create them.

Also: Sometimes when I click edit or any link, the wiki takes me to the top of the article. Editthis sems to do the same. I think maybe that's a bug. Is there a way to solve that?

Thanks beforehand. Regards.--Wikitainment guy 04:08, 21 October 2006 (EDT)

I'm also having troble with wikitables:--Wikitainment guy 05:07, 21 October 2006 (EDT)

Ownership

I understand editthis holds no rights over my creation (Wikitainment), and I'm incredibly thankful for that. This is such a noble organization. I also want to claim no ownership over the free content of Wikitainment Guides, however I'd like to hold the copyrights of the site. The idea would be to grow it and eventually be bought off or to host the site as a server (moving it to another address) and get an advertisement deal with Google... I'm ashamed to admit this, but the whole thing started off as a very progressive idea, but somewhere in the way I got greedy, hahahah.

How can I make sure I, Armando Torre Puerto, hold such copyrights?--Wikitainment guy 09:54, 21 October 2006 (EDT)

Logo problem

Link Spammer

Everytime I add link contains editthis.info in this wiki i get this message :

Hello link spammer.

Just so you know, google does not follow links off this page.

The links are tagged to be ignored by search engines, so go somewhere else. All you are doing is annoying users.

Adding links here will not help you page rank

Thanks, Rob -a sysadmin who doesn't need pharm ;)

Please fix this bug in your security settings --Chaos 17:34, 27 October 2006 (EDT)

I've noticed that this stopped happening when I removed all URL looking things from my text. It's stupid, but it worked. –Rodney 23:28, 4 November 2006 (EST)

it is good feature to stop bad spamming .. but there must be a collection of excluded trusted websites like : wikimedia projects , and other free source sites .

the most important is to exclude this same site : editthis.info from this blocking ... for example i have uploaded a picture on some wiki but i couldn't use it as logo ... i was forced to upload it to wikimedia comons then this site acept it --Chaos 07:05, 5 November 2006 (EST)

That is a good point, right now it looks at a combination on the page of a "spam word" and "http". It tells you the problematic word in the error page after the text "a sysadmin who doesn't need ". If you are an admin you can now add that word to your white list through the control panel.

Please help

Hi, I am trying to make a good wiki, but nobody is creating users on my wiki, there is basically only The thing and me that works on my wiki, I really need to make a good wiki, since my last one was not good. Please, can you help me? -- Neo jimmy6

Sure, Neo jimmy6. We'd love to help. How can we help you make good wiki? What was not good about your previous wiki?
My previous wiki... See, its a long story, there wasn't a lot of users, the content was "bad grammar". The main page was dying. Then I just said to myself: I can't believe this... So, i made a new wiki. And what I need help on my wiki is content, few users that would be actually interested and more pages. -- Neo jimmy6

How to delete files?

Hi there! Absolutely just love editthis.info. Keep up the great work. Curious as to how to delete files, though. I believe there is a spam file in my file list. It looks like this:

(desc) NLV.DOC . . 57,344 bytes . . Kidyoti . . 16:40, 28 October 2006 (THE PURPOSE If you want to take it easy and to stay away from distress, if you want to be more creative or if you want to prepare yourself for globalization, you may want to consider a new yet very old way of doing so. It is by adjusting yourself to the l)

Assistance would be most appreciated.

If I rememer correctly, you have to login as admin in order to delete the file. Have you tried that? Jan 84.44.134.60 09:15, 9 November 2006 (EST)

I was able to delete the file as an administrator. Thanks!

Ad help

A question about time

My wiki, Nomicapolis, is a sensitive to time. Having stated that, when I edit a page with:

  • 04:37, 17 November 2006 when using magic words: {{subst:CURRENTTIME}}, {{subst:CURRENTDAY}} {{subst:CURRENTMONTHNAME}} {{subst:CURRENTYEAR}}
  • 23:37, 17 November 2006 (EST) when using ~~~~~

There are two completely different times listed differing by 5 hours.

Plus another completely different time on recent changes. Any idea on how to set it all to the same time? --66.169.97.228 23:37, 17 November 2006 (EST)

I may have found the answer myself, however it involves editing LocalSettings.php on my wiki as cited here.
I would like to request that the Global Timezone for Nomicapolis be (re)set to UTC. 66.169.97.228 23:37, 17 November 2006 (EST)
